I just installed FCP 5.1 the Universal/Cross-grade version. So I can put it on an Intel Mac or the PowerPC G5 Mac. Well I choose to put it on the Power PC G5. No issues at first, all apps were working fine. I couldn’t see any difference from FCP 5.1 from the 5.0 version. Until I tried to use Compressor 2.1. Nothing. It opened and jumped up and down on the dock and immediately quit. I send a report to apple and described to them I was trying to open the application. Did that numerous times and it repeated over and over again.

Compressor is an important application for me. This application is the gateway to DVD media. This is where you encode media files into MPEG-2 for standard definition or H.264 for HD-DVDs. I still can use DVDSP4 encoding software but it is not as good as compressor. I’ve posted a question on Apple’s Compressor Discussion board and we’ll see if I get the answer that will help me with this issue.
