Invisible Children

I got an email from a friend at HBO Documentary department to check out the trailer of Invisible Children. After I took a peek I was hooked and had to see this documentary. I noticed underneath the trailer a section for screenings that are held around the country. Great, November 4th in Huntersville, NC they had a scheduled screening. I emailed for directions and the next day I got a email with a flyer with directions.

My brother took the trip with me from Greensboro to Huntersville, a small town located North of Charlotte, a nice hour and fifteen minute drive. The screening took place in a small strip office building complex owned by a church. The turnout was great. I would say about 30-35 people showed up and were just as eager as I was to view it. The majority of the people who showed up were in their early twenties and my brother and I rounded out the top of the age group.

This is an amazing story of how the children in Northern Uganda strive for survival. These kids are caught in a civil war between their government and Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army, a rebel group that makes extensive use of kidnapping and child soldiers. Each year around 50,000 children are abducted in Uganda and forced to become ruthless soldiers. These three filmmakers from USC bring home a frightening message that the world has closed it’s eyes to. Thankfully, Jason Russell, Bobby Bailey, and Laren Poole have brought home a message that the world can see with open eyes. A message that the blind folds are off and we the people want this bloodshed to end. For the children of Uganda to have a chance in life and live without the fear of being ripped out of the beds in the middle of night and turned into mindless killing machines.
