Rocking Hardcore at Work

January 8th, 2007 · No Comments

This past Saturday night I went to The Lincoln Theater in Raleigh, NC, to help Blake shoot and record audio for a couple of bands performing at the Winter Metal Fest. Not my stein of beer, but these guys really rocked and I always find myself having a good time recording these gigs. If I didn’t work with Blake on Series DVD I’d never have a chance to hear these bands perform live. A live performance with energy and emotion always gets me going regardless of the genre.

Take a listen to a few of the bands that I captured.
1st Band - AutoMag
2nd Band - Widow
3rd Band - Karl Agell’s Blind

Blake didn’t want the complicated setup. Where I would setup my Phonic Helix18FW 18-Channel Mixer and pull in feeds from the sound board and capture each instrument and vocal on a separate track and mix it later. So instead I setup my Samson C02 Condenser Microphones and recorded in Sound Studio 3.

Before and after the show Blake and Matt (KWD) took me to Snoopy’s. Their treat. This is not even close to the cleaver cute dog that everyone loves. This is a grease pit that serves hot dogs and burgers to the drunken peeps of Raleigh. To Snoopy’s credit the food tastes great and the service is fast. You walk up to a window put your blood clogging order in and within a few, they call out your order and you pick it up at another window. This is not a place where you can walk in and gorge out. You have to either take it with you or eat on the curb. We chose the the curb and grubbed out. 24 hours later I was paying for it… I need to listen to my body more often, kinda like global warming. I don’t want Katrina to hit my tummy.
