I got a an email from Deborah Scranton yesterday informing me about a panel discussion on the subject of, ?Restorative Justice in the American South: Exploring the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Process in Greensboro, North Carolina.?

The Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island is holding the event. Deborah thought my documentary, “Greensboro’s Child,” would be a great tie in with the panel discussions.

Smith Hall

If you are interested about the subject and want to attend it will be held at Smith-Buonanno Hall Room 106 on Sunday, February 11th, from 4-6PM. This event will be moderated by Renee Romano, PhD, Associate Professor of History and African American Studies at Wesleyan University. I will be joining the panel which includes…

  • Jill Williams, Executive Director of the Greensboro Truth and Reconciliation Commission
  • Ed Whitfield, civil rights and labor activist, co-chair Greensboro Peace Coalition
  • Marty Nathan, MD, community physician, Executive Director of the Greensboro Justice Fund, widow of Dr. Michael Nathan, community organizer and activist slain on November 3, 1979 in Greensboro, NC

There will be a reception following the panel discussion. Please stick around and say hi.

On Monday I will be holding office hours from 11am to 4pm at the Center for Study of Race and Ethnicity in America on the campus of Brown University. At 6pm I will be showing clips from “Greensboro’s Child,” to a class studying activism and filmmaking. We will also talk about relating Greensboro TRC to Brown’s Slavery and Justice report.

I will be documenting my stay and hope to keep you informed on what is going on. Stay tuned.
