The safest way to do have your markers end up in DVDSP is to put your markers between sequences. By that I mean, create your individual sequences for your project then drop them each into your main sequence. Try to design the individual sequences so that where they butt up in the main sequence is where you put your markers. Now, (and this is my own preference because I have multiple macs to work on), make sure nothing is highlighted in your main sequence timeline, select the main sequence where your bins and clips are located, right click on the main sequence and choose send to compressor. In compressor you will see your markers in the viewer. Compress your footage using anyone of the three (best quality dvd settings) then when you put these into DVDSP they will work. Again, this way does tie up FCP while compressing but it has always worked for me.

Was pulling my hair out until i realized that you must make sure to NOT highlight the clips when exporting as FCP will export what it finds selected, ignoring your chapter markers. Trust your in and out markers, as that is specific to the timeline... where your chapter markers are.

@Mike, Just a preference. I like to have a Quicktime file so I can put it in compressor for DVD or to encode for youtube. Plus it allows me to continue to work in FCP and not be locked up with the compressing.

When I did this tip/tutorial it was with FCP 6. I noticed that in FCP 7 when you export in Quicktime you have to select use DVD Studio Pro Markers instead of Chapter Markers in the export menu on the bottom.

I hope that clears some things up for you.

Just curious, why don't you directly send your FCP file to Compressor instead of exporting to Quicktime, then converting it in Compressor?

Also, my chapter markers are not showing up in DVD Studio Pro 4. I went through all the steps, making sure everything was checked. Strange. Thanks!

My project is 147 minutes long. It took almost 9 hours to compress. I have made the menu in DVDSP, when I 'Build/Format' it always says something different. It is unsuccessful because of 'layer 0,' so I researched and changed 'layer 0,' then it aborts again and says "A suitable marker could not be found in the required layer break range. See the DVD Studio Pro User's Manual for more information."
What I don't understand is the marker situation, I use markers in FCP to cut, not to set chapters. Does this mean that the many different markers that I have on my timeline in FCP (not only on the clips, but on top of timeline) are causing the problem since I have made different chapters on DVDSP? Since I need to turn in this project in the next few days, and I have been trying for three days already, I do not know what to do. Hope someone can help.

Markers are an awesome way to instantly make chapters in DVD Studio Pro. I compiled a list of commonly used shortcuts for Markers in Final Cut Pro:
http://fcpdaily.com/2010/03/fcp-shortcut-of-the-week-shortcuts-for-markers-in-final-cut-pro/

Hope that's helpful!

I compressed the fcp sequence with added chapters directly in compressor, but the chapters didn't import in dvd studio pro. is there anything i need to change in dsp for it to recognize the chapters?

I am wondering how to use compressor. It's hard to find instructions and most demos just say import to compressor, export to dvd studio, but compressor can be confusing. I would like to keep my fcp video uncompressed, then use compressor to get it into dsp . Supossedly the video won't be as pixilated and grainy this way. Can you help me?

I had the same issue as Jackie. My reference file imported in dvdsp did not show the chapter markers. Why is that? What will definitely make it work?

One way to go is to bring the FCP file into Compressor and encode your footage that way. You can use the template settings in compressor then import the encoded file into DVDSP. If you have no idea what I'm talking about please let me know.
