Upgrade Your Powerbook G4 Hard Drive

March 4th, 2007 · 3 Comments

Last week I upgraded my hard drive from an 80 GB to a 160 GB for my 17″ Powerbook G4. It was fairly simple. There are many places that will charge you to do this service which is nice if you are a technotard. But don’t worry, if you want to take a stab at it check out this Fixit Guide Series that has do it yourself instructions for MACs and iPods.

meritline_1935_137289725Another great feature if install Tiger OS X 10.4 to the new hard drive and restart you can transfer your account and all of your applications from your previous hard drive. One way to do this is to install your hard drive you just pulled from your laptop into a 2.5″ external enclosure and it will pull your data from your previous hard drive to the new installed hard drive on your laptop. Pretty cool feature, no more reinstalling all of your applications and documents. No more. I hope this helps.

    Of course it’s easy. It’s a Mac!

Andy Coon teaches us many things ranging from Final Cut tips to citizen journalism. But my fave is his savvy ways ’round the modern tech vernacular e.g. ‘technotard’!

Jill I have to admit that I picked up this term where I work. I’m part of the IT team and work at a Sales Training Firm… I work with older salesmen and the term was born with examples like this.

When Frank called me and asked me where should he send a potential client on our website to view a demo video of him presenting I told him to go to this url address… “.com/frank.html” he thought the / was spelled out s-l-a-s-h so he thought it was like this. “.comslashfrank.html”

It happens everyday across this great country in many organizations and families alike. Our Director of IT has a Zen about him that I respect, I’d lose it.
