Tonight the Carolina Theater in Greensboro, is showing Adam Zucker’s documentary, “Greensboro: Closer to the Truth,” at 7 PM. This should be interesting to see how the community views it. I’m interested too. When I was in production with, “Greensboro’s Child,” I was a one man crew and had a very limited budget and equipment. After I finished the final version I thought about opening it up again to add the Greensboro Truth and Reconciliation Commission (GTRC) process to it. I couldn’t doing it anymore. The time, energy and budget was all out of reach. So I’m glad someone took up the initiative and documented what took place in Greensboro.
I spoke with Adam a few times when he was running around town getting shots and constructing his film. It should be interesting to see what an outsider brings to the table. How will we, the Greensboro residences be represented to the rest of the world? Will it be a fair representation? We’ll see.
I’m really interested to see what his vision brings to the current discussion of so many passionate bloggers in Greensboro. Check out a few of these comment threads just about the GTRC.
- Ed Cone asks the CWP to apologize first.
- Ed Cone: The anticipation of the report
- Sean Coon, my bro points at how a city counsel member views the GTRC
- Lex Alexander of The News & Record, trying to bring a group discussion of antagonists together about the final report.
I’ll look at his film with open eyes and try to embrace his story. It will be hard to go in with an unbiased mind, I know this story very well. By saying that, I don’t believe “Greensboro’s Child,” tells the entire story. But it did show the people of Greensboro, a better picture of why that nasty day of November 3rd, 1979, is so important to discuss. I do believe that I can and will learn something new about the event and I’ll share my perspective with you another time. Till then, I’ll see you at the theater, with my bro.
