Editing, DVD Authoring, Producing…FCProducer For Hire

July 10th, 2007 · No Comments

This is the hardest post I have ever had to write. Why is that you ask? Today I agreed to leave my comfortable position at The Brooks Group so I can keep my head up high and continue to work as a freelancer. FCProducer is on the market!! Anyone of my readers hiring?

It was almost a month ago when I went to the HOW Design Conference when the opening presenter’s (Karen Salmansohn) speech left a mark on me. What was it? It was called, “Ballsy“. She was challenging a room full of designers and a filmmaker to be ballsy and take a chance. So I did…and put them out there.

What on earth would make me dangle my future especially with all these bills? Was it my arrogance, temper, attitude or disrespect for my family? If you know me I think you know the answer to that. In case you don’t, the answer is no…on everything. I outgrew the company culture. Without throwing stones I can honestly say I still worked professionally at a high level and continued to push the envelope with our marketing material until today at noon. I did my best.

I enjoyed my time there and I will continue to have a personal relationship with each member of the marketing and IT team there. I’ve personally gained a lot of experience and perspective in:

  • Marketing
  • Corporate Communication
  • Sales
  • Flash
  • Editing
  • Lighting
  • Audio
  • Shooting Video
  • Green Screen
  • Motion Graphics
  • DVD Authoring
  • Keynote Presentations
  • Podcasting
  • Audio Books
  • Corporate Blogging

I have to admit it, I am or was a spoiled employee. Here are some of the reasons why I’ll miss my former employer.

  1. Any time an update came out for FCP or Photoshop, my office would keep me happy and supply me with my candy.
  2. I learned how to be a professional not only in my field but also a great understanding of the selling profession.
  3. The players involved…I will miss the collaborations from marketing materials, product development, blog post and video production.
  4. I have a new deep respect for professional salespeople. And an even greater respect for sales managers.
  5. Since I became an employee, our sales increased every year and we hit a record year in sales last year. Everyone interprets that one differently and so do I.

Time to move on and move on quickly. Got to pay the mortgage bill. An exciting new time in my life and I’m glad I can share it with you.
