A Huge Thanks

The Film Festival on Saturday night was one of those moments I will cherish for a long time. The turnout was great and the reactions to the films were even better. Ajit Anthony Prem, Steven van Vuuren, Brian Conley, Mitchell Davis and Farrah Hoffman, thank you so much for being in attendance it meant a lot having you there. I wish I had more time to sit down with each of you and really have a conversation. Who knows maybe a “Conversation with Coon” will be in the near future.

The audience was fantastic. We had a voluntary donation for the audience award for the best rated film and we raised $124 at the festival. An additional $30 was donated on Paypal. I’m leaving the Paypal button up until I announce the winner of the audience award on Sunday. If you want to contribute to the award here is the button.

2 Art Chicks Gallery thank you so much for the space. It was the perfect venue for the film festival. 2 Art Chicks Gallery is closing but will be moving down the street near Glitters. They need some help renaming the gallery, those 2 art chicks that origanlly named the place are no longer involved. Good luck Melodi.

The sponsors this year were great. I hit up Current TV early and they came through. I was glad that they came to us this year. Saskia and Brandon with Current and Jason with Crap TV thank you so much for being in attendance at the festival and presenting at the conference. I enjoyed every minute talking with you. I came at these businesses late in the game and they still supported us. Apple Spice Catering for supplying us with some great snack trays. Tate Street Coffee for the great hot coffee. Burn energy drink for donating a great amount of your product. Earth Fare Supermarkets handed out a nice grab bag of organic products. Boutique Hypnotica donated a grab bag of incense. Tribunal Records donated a handful of CDs from their great lineup of musicians. Indigo and Blue Man Salon for donating their great hair care and skin care products. Molly McGinn for donating her great CD. Fitness Today donated a 6 month free membership to their gym. Carolina Theater of Greensboro donated tickets to their up and coming movie lineup. Triad Stage donated 2 tickets to their current production.

Props to Sue Polinsky for asking me to put this festival together. Jeri Rowe for writing a great timely article about Sean and I and the festivals we hooked up for ConvergeSouth. Angela, my wife, for greeting everyone at the door to tell them what the brown bag was for. Also to my crew, Blake Faucette and Micah Moore for helping me set up the venue and breaking it down. You guys are great to work with.

For all the people curious about how I selected the films for the festival here was the selection process. Submit an entry to the festival. I watched the entries looking for production quality, story, does the film hold the audience from start to finish, and if it was a good overall film. I received only 40 entries for this first year. Out of those entries there were 20 authors. Multiple entries from one director. I contacted many vloggers, citizen journalist and filmmakers. Some of whom supplied entries others ignored the call.

Also kudos to Ben Hwang, Percy Walker and anyone else that put out the word on their blog that we were looking for entries. For anyone else that has the capacity to broadcast the message on their blog about submitting films to the festival but complains on someone else’s blog about the kind of entries we received… quit your crying and next time use your words to get “Your” kind of entries into the festival. To answer the question about “who decides what gets played?” let me quote someone famous, “I’m the decider!”

The Future?

Hopefully next year will have more entries as well as some volunteers to help with the festival. I will need a budget to market the film festival. So we can be heard by the film community. I will be inviting filmmakers, distributors, possible investors and businesses to the festival. Will consider showing feature length films. Make it a 2 day festival showing films all over Greensboro and make it free for ConvergeSouth attendees and pay at the door for everyone else. Citizen Journalist as well as vlogs will be invited again. Will I do it again next year? Let me rest up and enjoy some quiet time with my woman and look for some freelance work. I’ll let you know soon enough. Till then thanks again ConvergeSouth.

CONGRATS! This DC entrant was with you in spirit (apologies Andy again for being there only telepathically instead of in-person). Enjoy the afterglow of your great success. You and the ConvergeSouth team have added a fine creative outlet to Greensboro.
