That’s right you can learn from the woman who writes the Apple Pro Training Series book on Final Cut Pro 6 Diana Weynand. She will be leading the class in Asheville, NC on November 6-8, 2007. This is also during the Asheville Film Festival. A great idea to have this along a film festival, maybe I can work something like this out for the next year… For more information on the training click here.
I’m an Apple Certified Professional. What does that mean as far as marketability? I have no idea. Filmmakers recognize that you know your craft but it doesn’t validate that you can actually edit. I don’t believe corporations are breaking down doors to hire certified professionals. That is just reality.
I do belief that potential clients need to take Apple Certified Professionals into consideration. My reasoning is simple. The last two editing gigs I was hired on was to fix the media management nightmare that previous editors had no clue how to manage. That is one of the most important and overlooked skills a Final Cut Pro editor needs to have in order to be successful, in my eyes. So I do believe being certified is beneficial to potential clients.
If you feel that you can’t make the trip to Asheville I suggest you purchase the Apple Pro Training Series book and go through it front to back at your own pace. Go through it again in 3 weeks to solidify your learning. The book makes it really easy to learn. I went to a Motion training session in NYC and they taught out of the book. Which is great if you have no idea what is going on. But it sucked when you already trained with the same book from front to back on your own. I did get a lot of insight since our trainer realized that we knew the book already so he dipped into how Motion works with DVDSP and FCP and the interactivity between all programs. Which was nice. I learned more about DVDSP and Photoshop than I did about Motion. I can’t vouch on behalf of the training you will get in Asheville, but if you never read the book or understand FCP then I would say go to Asheville and go to the training classes. Other than that, if you want to know more about the FCP Studio Suite and the interactivity between the programs I would go ahead and hire me to take you through it. But that is my biased opinion.
