On The Set Need Some Help

March 7th, 2008 · 2 Comments

We are trying to use one of our laptops as a monitor while we shoot. I’ve used it before but that was with DV cameras. Does anyone know the log and capture settings for a Panasonic HVX 200? Can we use the laptop as a monitor for the HVX?

In particular what should the Device Control and the Capture/Input be?

I didn’t have enough time to test all the options in the log and capture screen. I have tonight to run some tests, if anyone knows this please feel free to comment and correct us. It will be a huge help. Thanks.

    Hi Andy,
    Here’s what you do.

First, set your HVX to Tape instead of P2
    Turn on the HVX
Plug in the camera via fire wire to FCP.
    Open FCP
Open Log And Capture (not Log & Transfer)
You should see the cameras feed
Under Capture Settings, set Device control to
    “Non-Controllable Device”.
To begin capturing, simply do a “Capture Now”. There is no need to hit REC on the HVX.

    Ricky,

Thanks for the advice. We went a completely different route. The Exec Producer went out and borrowed a couple of LCD screens for the shoot. It is not in widescreen but it gives the director and her team something to look at.

How could I record to P2 card and monitor it at the same time.
