In Your Professional Opinion

For the past couple of months I’ve been searching for the right hard drive setup for our next feature film, which has something to do with zombies and soldiers and civil war. Pretty cool script. We begin shooting around May 17th and it is up to me to find a RAID system for us to download and to feel confident that our footage will not be lost. Something that hasn’t worked out for us in the past.

RAID HDIt needs to be portable so it can be on the set and back and forth to the editors. Currently I’m looking at the Cavalry CADA002SA2. I actually purchased it and am thinking about returning it. It is a RAID 2TB drive, eSATA/USB 2.0. It is software based RAID and the software is of course windows. If you’re not aware I use Macs and so does the director of the picture. I plugged in the drive and only one hard drive shows up, there are 2, 1TB drives. I want to mirror 1TB so it will be backed up instantly. So I’m on the phone with the tech support, which is very friendly but pretty poor at this moment.

These are the features that I’m looking for.

  • RAID 1 or 5
  • Removable Hard Drives
  • eSATA/USB2.0/Firewire 400
  • Portable
  • Mac Friendly
  • Affordable (Not Cheap)

If you could help us out that would be huge. These are the current units I’ve looked at.

Netgear RND4210
Buffalo Technology DriveStation Quattro™ TurboUSB
G-Technology G-Speed eS

Or I might make my own.

ANY SUGGESTIONS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED
