Take Five

June 29th, 2008 · No Comments

For one day I get to rest and relax in the comfort of my home. Ahhh. I’m really tired, I’m not used to getting up early every day and working 10 – 11 hours. Not to mention being on the road. Not having a place to call home is exhausting.

Don’t have too much time to relax because I have to be in Raleigh by 9:30 this morning. Two more days and this production wraps. I’ve enjoyed this production on many levels. I enjoy meting people who share the same interests as me but I really enjoy meeting top quality professionals and this shoot has it from the top down.

I’m the assistant cameraman on this production and working with Jake Starkey has been a pleasurable experience. Jake is the DP on this shoot and he is the consummate wise-ass that lightens the day. He is the one that hands out the nick names based on the actions of the person… don’t ask what my name is. He understands what the director wants and makes it happen. He also works really well with the gaffer Shane McMullin. Shane is the McGuyver on the set. He can make any lighting scenario work. I am in awe watching him work. The grips are fantastic too… hard working and no attitudes on this set. If you think that I geek out the producer on this set beats me to a pulp. Ammon Ehrisman the producer/editor on this production and he is the one that bought a 42″ monitor to hook up to the camera and built an impressive Hackintosh system running OSX Leopard 10.5.2 and FCP 6.0.3. The Director Sandy Gottlieb is a first time director and asks the crew a lot of questions about the gear and how the scene works. He seems very passionate about this production and is easy to work with.

I can’t forget the actors on board. The actors are giving a very solid performance and know how to keep the atmosphere light on the set. While the crew are busting their humps to flag a hot spot they are chilling and keeping the set calm with their sense of humor. Some good performances and I’m glad I met them, would love to see them in our future productions.

Here is a few on set pics of the film. Back to work. See ya!
