Film Festival Idea

August 25th, 2008 · 2 Comments

If I were a new film distribution company I would go ahead and invest in creating a film festival. The top films will be guaranteed to be distributed at the next film market we attend. This way you have the films come to you and you can make a slight profit while doing it.

I think the film festival circuit needs a fresh new overhaul and try not to be so big where filmmakers are pinched in the pocketbook…then turn around and charge the moviegoers so much to watch it. It seems more like a scam than a festival.

What’s your take?

I agree, if you’re gonna charge the filmmaker, then make it free to watch, and vice versa.

Of course most festivals are around to make money, and my idea doesn’t seem to be the best business model, lol, but it does seem like double dipping.

I’m thinking we should start a film festival Andy, what do you think?

I had the joy of creating a film festival last year with ConvergeSouth. I had a blast but I want it to be different than your average festival and I want it to be huge.

I’m open for future discussions, glad to have met you Jake.
