AVCHD Test… The Choice Is Yours

September 18th, 2008 · 3 Comments

AVCHDAnyone in NC or the world want to lend me an AVCHD camcorder so I can finally run some tests on it and make a tutorial on how to capture footage?

Ideally the camera manufacturers are the ones I’m hinting at here. But if you live in Greensboro and want to drop it off for couple of days I’ll be glad to give it back when I’m done with the tutorial. Or if you are one of the thousands that bought a hard drive camcorder with AVCHD codec and are about to break it I say hold your horses and send it my way and I will do my best to find a solution to your problem. Just ship the camera to me with a return label and after I do the tutorial I will ship it back. I keep getting email questions about these frustrating camcorders and I can only suggest ideas. Nothing really based on facts and proven methods.

Or if you want me to do this test contact any of the following manufacturers and request on my behalf.

On with your week and I hope you have a good one.

Hey the AVCHD codec is supported by macs and is easy to use. I brought the Sony HDR-CX6 and it is a fantastic buy… In FCP rather than use the log and capture you need to use the log and transfer this links to the camera and you are able to view all the clips recorded and select the ones you wish to capture.

I will be putting together a tutorial this weekend, but in the meantime hope this helps.

That’s great!!! Do you know about support for G5s?

    Hey Andy,

The support for the G5 should be packaged into the latest FCP. If you are having trouble there is an alternative which takes the same amount of time but it re compresses to HDV not Pro Res like the Log and Transfer mode.

    Step One:
Drag all AVCHD files from the camera into a folder on your chosen storage.

    Step Two:
Down load the third party app called Voltaic HD

Even though you can not read the files from the camera drag them to the 3rd party app and recompress.

    Hope this helps Glyn…
