Craigslist Video Jobs… The Good and Bad

November 6th, 2008 · 2 Comments

One of my sources for looking for potential work is Craigslist. Not just in NC, but all over the country. I subscribe to well over 60 feeds from Craigslist in the tv/film/video/radio jobs category and sometimes it is overwhelming. I’ve submitted to well over 1,500 ads in the past year, out of that I’ve gotten 10 gigs and had about 15 replies. I can’t say that I truly know how many people respond to those ads, but I’m sure it is mind bending.

You read many ads looking to hire people for credits on films. That is a good way to meet people but also getting used and burnt out. Other jobs want to use your equipment, your skills and only pay $10 an hour. That pisses more professionals off more than the freebies. Here is one response to an ad..

Title: Editing Job (dreamland)
wow 100 whole dollars for editing 2 music videos?
i have a bag of magic beans and would like someone to pay $8,000,000 for it
its about as likely to happen as this ridiculous ‘job’ offer

I have a HDV miniDV and I want someone to edit 2 music videos from it
and I will pay 100.00

Every day it’s something that amuses me… but at the same time worries me too. How is your success on Craigslist?

Nice site, but I wonder if you noticed that the word producer is spelled procucer in the graphic at the masthead on this page.

I’m well aware of it. My graphic designer buddy did the header and I missed that…working on a new site design. Thanks for the comment
