About
You want to know about me, you need to understand my family first.
It all starts with her.
My Grandma-Reva Patrick Coon
I shot this documentary back in 1997 when I was attending UNCG. Fortunately I was able to complete this family documentary as an independent study and was awarded credit for it. My Grandmother Reva Patrick Coon is an inspiration not only me but many of the people who has crossed her path during her 103 years on this earth.
My Wife-Angela Garrity Coon
Angela and I were friends for six years before we began dating. Next thing I knew I was on my knee asking her to live with me for the rest of our lives. One thing I learned about Angela when we began dating was that the woman can sing. I went to many of her shows up to six hours away as well as local. She has a true gift with her vocal skills. Check it…
My Brother-Sean Patrick Coon

What else can I say about my brother that no one already knows. Sean and I are more than just brothers. We both share an understanding that we would do anything for one another. He is my big brother and best friend as well as my mentor. Sean has opened my eyes to the possibilities of communicating with the on-line community and to think outside of the box for my future filmmaking projects. He is currently producing the dotmatrix project which incorporates live bands, filmmakers, photographers and live CD recordings of the night. The idea is to allow artists to collaborate and to produce one video per band with pictures and video dancing with the music and creating a special night to remember.
My Mother-Nancy Duarte Coon

I love this lady… she has given so much to me in so many ways that when you meet me you are meeting my mother as well. I try to represent her name as best as I can. She knows about respect, and treats people like she would like to be treated. If you step over the line and begin to push her around… watch out, this lady has some fire behind her calm demeanor.
My mother is now considered retired. I will never see her as being retired, I’ve never seen anyone work as hard and act as professional as her. She was a highly respected art teacher for over 40 years at Glen Ridge High School in New Jersey. Her students that gave their all to her teachings went on to achieve great things in the art community.
My Father-Robert Burton Coon

My father is the gentleman that got me interested in filmmaking. He had the intellect and balls to take his kid to rated R films before political correctness seeped into our culture. He introduced me to films like Blade Runner when I was 8 years old… 3 years later I saw Brazil. You tell me that an 8 year old can understand the morality of Blade Runner or an 11 year old understand the political nuances of Brazil? Well I didn’t, but I thought the imagery was spectacular as well as the acting. The next year he took me to see Highlander the original. That I understood and truly appreciated the editing as well as the cinematography. It wasn’t till my late teens until I truly understood the social significance of those films. I’m not in bed with sci-fi films or feature length narratives, I’ve chosen a different path. One that winds through society and truly opens the hearts and minds of people to trigger a conversation. I want to avoid a life like those in Brazil.
My father is a retired professor of fine arts from the University of Kean College in New Jersey. My brother and I have reaped the benefits of growing up in such a cerebral household. Thanks Dad and Mom for this mind that you helped develop.

ANDY BURTON COON is an award winning documentary filmmaker that currently resides in Greensboro, North Carolina.
I grew up in Montclair, New Jersey for my first 18 years of life. My northern nurturing focused on a University in the south, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Prior to attending UNCG I never visited a southern state and was in for a shock. The shock was the refreshing lifestyle that one can find in North Carolina. I’ve been a resident ever since and have embraced the southern lifestyle.
I’m currently freelancing as an Independent contractor in multiple areas of filmmaking. My work ranges from documentaries, corporate commercials, feature films, music videos and on-line marketing. I have worked with Time Warner Cable, G-Graphics, Heaven on Earth Creations, Case & Cushion Furniture, Series DVD, Tribunal Records and as a consultant with All Aces Media. I’m also working with my brother on his brain child The dotmatrix project. I’m acting as one of the film community leaders which reach out to filmmakers and bring them in to the project. I also act as a filmmaker and editor when needed.
I Directed and organized 2007 ConvergeSouth Film Festival. I took on the challenge of building a film festival from the ground up with no budget. I used my on-line marketing experience to market the message and generate hype for the film festival. It was the first year for the film festival and I used my filmmaking experience to build an exciting film festival that was showcase on October 20th, 2007 in Greensboro, NC.
I love how the web is allowing individuals and businesses the opportunity to bring creativity to the world. I’m a huge supporter of progressive ideas and understand how the web brings us closer together and helps to inform and educate people. It is up to the individual user of the web to declare how it effects society. If we all make the right choices we have nothing to worry about.
Ideas are what keep me going. I have so many ideas that branch across the hemisphere of business and entertainment. If anyone is ever interested in expanding these ideas into actuality please feel free to contact me.
